ALPLA Expands Injection-Moulding Capabilities with KM Packaging Acquisition

The ALPLA Group has acquired KM Packaging, a German-based closure manufacturer, to expand its injection-moulding division, ALPLAinject. The move significantly increases ALPLA’s production of high-quality closures for tubes, bottles, and jars—including clean-room applications—across six sites in Germany, Austria, Poland, and the United States.

ALPLA will integrate KM Packaging into its ALPLAinject division (from left): Nicolas Lehner (ALPLA Group CCO), Klaus Mauer (Managing Director KM Packaging) and Michael Feltes (Managing Director ALPLAinject)

This acquisition brings an annual output of more than 6.5 billion injection-moulded parts and integrates approximately 500 employees into the ALPLAinject operations. While terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the transaction was signed on 23 June 2025 and awaits regulatory approval from competition authorities.

“Injection-moulded parts play a key part in packaging. KM Packaging, a well-regarded specialist in tube closures, caps and dispensing aids, is a perfect match for our concept,” said Michael Feltes, Managing Director of ALPLAinject. He emphasized that the acquisition offers immediate market access and enhances ALPLA’s packaging system capabilities.

Founded through the merger of Kutterer Kunststofftechnik and Mauer AG, KM Packaging has been a prominent player in the European closure market since 2008. The company produces closures primarily for the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and food sectors, with a focus on sustainable practices such as lightweighting, material reduction, and the use of post-consumer recycled content.

“Integration into the ALPLA ‘Family of Pioneers’ will secure the future of the sites, jobs and customer relationships,” said Klaus Mauer, Managing Director of KM Packaging. The existing management team will continue under ALPLA, ensuring continuity in operations and customer service.

For ALPLA, which has steadily increased its investments in the Middle East and Africa, this strategic acquisition offers enhanced production capabilities and product diversity. “The added know-how will boost our role as a leading developer, manufacturer and recycler of plastic packaging,” said Nicolas Lehner, Chief Commercial Officer of ALPLA.

With this development, ALPLA strengthens its footprint in high-quality closure manufacturing, aligning with growing regional demand for advanced packaging solutions.
