Asahi Photoproducts will present the latest developments in its sustainable flexographic plate technologies at Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona. The focus will be on the expanded AWP™ Ecosystem—a modular, compact solution designed for small-format flexographic printers seeking to eliminate solvent use and reduce water consumption.
The AWP™ Ecosystem includes the AWP™ water-washable photopolymer plate, which can be processed using only water, avoiding VOC solvents and detergents. This plate delivers high-resolution print quality and improved operational efficiency. A key component of the system is the AWP™-2530AA processor, a compact all-in-one unit tailored for short-run and narrow web printers. It features an intuitive interface, optimized brush design, and high-definition screening compatibility.
Another highlight is the AWP-LOOP™ Petite, a closed-loop water recycling unit that uses Asahi Kasei’s Microza™ membrane filtration to recover up to 90% of process water. This significantly reduces wastewater and operational costs, aligning with the company’s “Solvent ZERO” sustainability strategy.
“The first fully additive-free AWP™ system using only water is currently installed at The Oldham Group in the United States,” the company confirmed. The technology is expected to be commercialized soon.
Asahi will also preview a new AWP™ FlatTop plate, designed for high-end label and flexible packaging applications. The plate supports advanced imaging and screening, delivering dense solids and sharp detail.
Looking ahead, Asahi plans to expand the AWP-LOOP™ system for larger formats. With increasing interest in fully water-washable platemaking, the company continues to invest in solutions that reduce environmental impact while maintaining high print performance.
