Bähren Pharma Packaging installs first MPS flexo press to expand pharmaceutical label capabilities

MPS EF next generation flexo press.

Bähren Pharma Packaging, a specialist in pharmaceutical secondary packaging, has installed its first MPS flexographic press, marking a key milestone in its expansion into pharma and specialty label production. The move reflects the company’s continued investment in advanced print technology following its integration into the Körber Group in January 2025.

Operating for three generations as a family business, Bähren manufactures over 1.5 billion secondary packaging products annually, including package inserts, combination products, and self-adhesive labels. Until recently, the company relied exclusively on offset and digital technologies. The new MPS EFA flexo press introduces roll-fed flexographic printing to its operations, configured to meet the stringent demands of pharmaceutical label manufacturing.

“This press represents a leap forward for our production capabilities,” said Mathias Schamberger, Site Manager at Bähren’s Bad Dürkheim facility. “It enables us to explore new product possibilities while ensuring precision, flexibility, and efficiency.”

According to Schamberger, the decision to partner with MPS was based on the system’s flexibility and register accuracy. “The modular rail system allows for dynamic arrangement of various units—ideal for handling complex jobs,” he explained. He also credited MPS and sales partner Printcon for their responsive collaboration and expertise in multilayer label production.

The press offers multi-layer printing, energy-efficient UV-LED drying, and make-ready adjustments during production, helping to reduce waste and optimize material use. As part of Bähren’s sustainability commitment, the machine operates on renewable electricity.

Currently in its early production phase, the flexo line is expected to expand Bähren’s product range and improve delivery timelines as production scales.
