Borealis Unveils High-Performance rLLDPE Grade with 85% PCR for Flexible Packaging

Borcycle™ M CWT120CL, is a recycled linear low density polyethylene (RLLDPE) grade for  non – food flexible packaging that contains 85% Post Consumer Recyclate (PCR).

Borealis has launched Borcycle™ M CWT120CL, a new recycled linear low density polyethylene (rLLDPE) grade containing 85% post-consumer recyclate (PCR). Developed in collaboration with Ecoplast, a Borealis Group company, the grade is designed for non-food flexible packaging, including stretch film, stretch hood, and agricultural or protective films.

The material marks a technical milestone in the company’s efforts to drive circularity through mechanical recycling. By combining 85% PCR with 15% virgin LLDPE booster, Borealis has achieved a balance of stretchability, toughness, and stiffness suitable for demanding blown film applications across primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging.

“Borcycle™ M CWT120CL will help our customers meet their sustainability targets while maintaining the high performance standards required for demanding flexible packaging applications,” said Peter Voortmans, Commercial Director Consumer Products Flexibles at Borealis.

Developed over two years and launched in January 2025, the grade is part of the Borcycle™ M portfolio—Borealis’ mechanical recycling platform under its EverMinds™ circular economy initiative. It is tailored to support compliance with emerging regulations such as the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

The rLLDPE’s low gel content enhances processing, while its mechanical performance helps reduce the carbon footprint of packaging solutions without compromising functionality.

Samples of Borcycle™ M CWT120CL will be showcased at Plastics Recycling Show Europe (PRSE) in Amsterdam on 1–2 April 2025 at Borealis’ Stand K80, Hall 5.
