Borouge launches UAE’s first locally produced healthcare-grade LDPE

The new LDPE grade aims to support regional pharmaceutical packaging and bolster supply chain resilience.

Borouge has announced the launch of the first low-density polyethylene (LDPE) produced in the UAE for healthcare applications. The material, Bormed™ LE6607-PH, is manufactured at the company’s Ruwais facility and was unveiled at ADIPEC on 5 November 2025.

This marks Borouge’s second healthcare-grade polymer made in the UAE, following the earlier introduction of its first locally produced polypropylene grade for medical use. The LDPE grade is designed for pharmaceutical and medical packaging, including blow-fill-seal bottles and ampoules.

The product is developed using Bormed™ technology from Borealis and is intended to meet the stringent purity, compliance, and stability requirements of global pharmaceutical packaging. It is additive-free and engineered to minimise extractables and leachables, ensuring compatibility with aseptic processing. The material complies with both EU and US Pharmacopoeia standards.

By producing healthcare-grade LDPE domestically, Borouge aims to strengthen regional supply chains, improve access to high-quality medical materials, and support faster, more reliable delivery to markets across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The move is aligned with the UAE’s “Make it in the Emirates” initiative, which promotes local manufacturing and industrial diversification.

“This launch positions Borouge at the forefront of healthcare-grade production in the UAE, strengthening our leadership across the region,” said Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer at Borouge. “By streamlining access to high-quality medical materials, we are proactively advancing our healthcare portfolio with locally manufactured polymers that meet international standards.”

The development also supports risk management and lead time reduction for medical manufacturers, while reinforcing the UAE’s role as a regional hub for high-quality healthcare packaging materials. With the introduction of Bormed™ LE6607-PH, Borouge continues to expand its presence in value-added sectors and enhance regional industrial capabilities.
