Canon has announced the launch of its Colorado XL-series, a new platform of 3.4m printers aimed at expanding its presence in the large-format graphics segment, including packaging. The new series extends Canon’s UVgel technology into the 3.2m-wide market with both roll-to-roll and hybrid printer configurations, targeting a range of applications such as signage, décor, point-of-sale displays, and packaging.
The XL-series includes two models: the Colorado XL7 roll-to-roll and Colorado XL7 hybrid printer. These systems accommodate media up to 52mm thick, including cardboard and fluted polypropylene, enabling users to print on rigid packaging substrates alongside more traditional flexible materials such as vinyl, film, banner, and paper.
Capable of reaching speeds of up to 211m² per hour in express mode, the XL-series supports demanding production environments. It uses the UVgel 860 ink set, which provides odourless, instant-dry prints with high durability and stability. Canon’s DynamicMotion Control and the UVgel FullBeam Curing system improve print quality and uniformity across wide formats.
Media transport is managed by a new TRIdrive vacuum belt system, designed to minimise skewing and ensure precise positioning, an important feature when printing packaging prototypes or production packaging on rigid materials.
Optional features from Canon’s modular portfolio, such as UVgel White, FLXfinish+ for gloss and matte effects, and FLXture for textured finishes, are also compatible with the XL-series.
“With its hybrid capabilities, users can print both roll-to-roll and rigid applications on the same device,” said Mathew Faulkner, Director, Marketing & Innovation, Wide Format Printing Group, Canon EMEA.
The Colorado XL-series will be available through Canon’s direct sales and accredited partners starting in early 2026.
