CCL Label Unveils Circular Packaging Technologies for MEA Beverage Market at Drinktec 2025

CCL’s latest label innovations aim to support circular economy goals across PET, glass, and flexible packaging systems.

At Drinktec 2025 in Munich, CCL Label is spotlighting a suite of functional packaging solutions designed to support recycling, reuse, and lower emissions—critical issues for beverage producers across the Middle East and Africa (MEA).

One of the standout technologies is EcoShear®, a new adhesive for single-use glass bottles. Unlike traditional labels that often contaminate recycled glass or resist separation during sorting, EcoShear® enables near-complete removal. “This reduces glass waste to just 1.5 kg per ton and significantly increases the yield of high-quality recycled glass,” the company stated.

CCL is also introducing EcoFloat® WHITE, a floatable sleeve that allows brands to replace opaque bottles with transparent PET while retaining light protection. The sleeve includes carbon-free inks, helping maintain the recyclability of the PET container without compromising shelf appeal—particularly relevant for dairy and protein drinks in hot MEA climates.

In the area of reuse systems, CCL has extended its Low Temperature WashOff label to reusable PET bottles. Designed to detach at wash temperatures as low as 58°C, the label also shrinks during cleaning to speed up processing lines. This solution is especially suited for refPET bottle systems expanding in markets with developing return logistics.

Sustainable materials are also in focus. The EcoSource® range includes two options:

  • BIO, made from plant-based materials using certified sourcing.
  • PCR, containing over 30% post-consumer recycled content.

Both are available in permanent and WashOff formats, offering practical paths for MEA-based brands aiming to meet stricter circularity targets.

Lastly, CCL is showcasing mono-material pouches made entirely from PE or PP, aligning with future regulatory standards. These pouches offer a cleaner recycling stream and a lower carbon footprint than traditional multi-layer flexible packaging.

For reusable packaging, RFID-enabled labels combined with CCL’s eAgile IT platform enable full lifecycle tracking of each package—boosting the efficiency and transparency of returnable systems.

Together, these solutions reflect a push to help beverage brands in the MEA region meet growing regulatory and environmental demands without compromising operational performance.
