Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) has invested R365 million in a new high-speed bottling line at its Midrand plant in Gauteng. The facility is designed to produce 72,000 bottles per hour and will expand the company’s capacity in the hydration category.
The line will manufacture Bonaqua Pump Still 750ml and Powerade 500ml bottles featuring a redesigned sports cap, as well as Bonaqua Still in 330ml and 500ml packs. It will also produce the recently launched Powerade Springboks Edition.
“By launching this new line, we strengthen our ability to meet growing consumer demand and create shared value across the local value chain, including for our customers and communities,” said Moses Lubisi, Manufacturing and Technical Director at Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA).
Sunil Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of CCBA, added: “This new production line in South Africa represents a key step in our ambitious growth plans in all our markets on the continent. It enhances our ability to meet consumer needs while reinforcing our commitment to delivering reliability and top-quality beverages across Africa.”
The company said the investment reflects a continued focus on local production, sourcing, and distribution. The new line incorporates technology aimed at optimising water and energy use, aligning with CCBA’s sustainability goals.
In addition to its operational upgrades, the project required skills development for employees, which the company said contributes to building a workforce prepared for future industry demands.
This development follows CCBA’s ongoing expansion plans across Africa, strengthening its manufacturing footprint in key markets.
