Dania Agricultural has adopted ExxonMobil’s Exceed™ Tough+ m 0516 resin to develop a more sustainable and cost-efficient mulch film, in collaboration with ExxonMobil’s recently launched Signature Polymers portfolio.
The shift to Exceed™ Tough+ m 0516 allowed Dania Agricultural to replace a traditional C4LL-based formulation, leading to notable environmental and operational gains. Produced on a 3-layer blown film line, the new mulch films maintained essential performance metrics such as tear strength and puncture resistance, which are critical for retrieval after crop cycles.
According to the case study, Dania Agricultural increased the post-consumer recycled (PCR) content in the films from 20% to 46%, without compromising mechanical properties. At the same time, the company achieved up to 50% reduction in film thickness. Notably, films containing 40% PCR and reduced thickness matched or exceeded the performance of the previous reference film.
Additional outcomes included a potential 52% reduction in mulch film cost per unit area and up to 70% decrease in the use of virgin resin.
The collaboration aligns with broader efforts in the agriculture and packaging sectors to reduce reliance on virgin materials and support circular economy goals. The development underscores the growing role of material science in driving cost-effective sustainability initiatives across industrial applications.
