Domino launches traverser-based coding system for high-speed egg packaging lines

Domino Printing Sciences has introduced a new Egg Pack Printing Traverser (EPPT), a coding solution designed for high-speed, multi-lane egg grading and packaging operations, aimed at improving traceability, accuracy, and production efficiency.

The system combines Domino’s Gx-Series thermal inkjet (TIJ) printers with a traverser mechanism engineered to deliver stable and consistent coding across different packaging formats, including moulded fibre, pre-labelled fibre, and rigid plastic packs. It is designed to integrate with existing grading systems such as Moba Omnia and Sanovo GraderPro, enabling continuous operation within established production workflows.

According to the company, the EPPT can deliver high-resolution codes at speeds exceeding 50 packs per minute, aligning with the throughput of modern egg grading systems and offering scalability for higher production volumes.

The solution uses cartridge-based TIJ technology, eliminating the need for traditional print-and-apply labels and associated materials such as silicone backing paper. This reduces waste, lowers maintenance requirements, and supports more sustainable operations in high-volume packaging environments.

In addition, the EPPT supports inline code verification through integration with vision systems that can detect and remove defective or unprinted packs before dispatch. The system is also compatible with GS1-based QR codes, enabling full “egg-to-pallet” traceability across the supply chain.

The traverser is designed for rapid installation and removal, allowing operators to minimise downtime during cleaning or maintenance. The launch reflects ongoing efforts to streamline coding processes and consolidate printing technologies in food packaging operations.
