DP World Opens $2 Million Cold Chain Facility in Walvis Bay to Boost Regional Trade

DP World inaugurates a $2 million cold chain facility in Walvis Bay, strengthening Namibia’s food storage and distribution infrastructure.

DP World has officially opened a new, state-of-the-art temperature-controlled distribution facility in Walvis Bay, reinforcing Namibia’s cold chain infrastructure. The $2 million investment is part of DP World’s broader strategy to enhance trade efficiency and meet growing demand across the food service, hospitality, retail, and export sectors in the region.

The facility, located at Deep Catch Namibia’s Atlantic Commercial Cold Store (ACCS), will serve as the new base for Seapride Foods Coastal, a key regional distributor. With 720 pallet positions, the new facility will increase Seapride’s food service capacity by 50%, enabling the company to better meet the rising demand along Namibia’s coast. The addition of a new office building will further streamline operations and improve service delivery.

The new temperature-controlled warehouse at Walvis Bay expands Seapride Foods Coastal’s storage capacity by 50%, supporting regional hospitality and retail sectors.

Bruce Denyer, Executive Vice President of Market Access Consumer for Sub-Saharan Africa, commented, “This investment is a testament to our confidence in Namibia’s future potential, particularly with the region’s economic growth driven by sectors such as tourism, mining exports, container traffic, oil exploration, and future hydrogen fuel infrastructure.”

Seapride Foods Coastal, founded in 1992, has evolved from a small seafood supplier into a leading regional distributor, serving Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and South Africa. The new facility will help address the company’s growing need for storage space and reduce reliance on municipal electrical infrastructure, which was previously strained by additional reefer containers.

Christoph Kubirske, Managing Director of Deep Catch Holdings, added, “By utilizing the space at ACCS for this new facility, we can maintain and vastly improve service levels as Seapride continues to grow.”

This development represents a significant step forward in enhancing Namibia’s cold chain capabilities and supporting regional growth.
