EGA Al Taweelah faces damage but ensures supply stability

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has confirmed that its Al Taweelah facility in Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi, sustained damage during recent regional attacks. Operations are under assessment, and minor injuries were reported among employees, none life-threatening.

CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban emphasized the company’s priorities: “The safety and security of our people is our top priority at EGA at all times.” His statement highlights EGA’s disciplined safety culture and operational resilience, key to maintaining continuity at a major industrial site.

For the Middle East and Africa packaging industry, Al Taweelah remains a critical source of high-purity aluminium. The smelter produced 1.6 million tonnes of cast aluminium in 2025, with ~99.88% purity, supplying essential feedstock for beverage cans, food containers, and flexible foil used by rolling mills and converters globally.

EGA’s integrated operations—including a 2+ million tonnes per year alumina refinery and 3,500 MW captive power capacity—along with strategically positioned overseas inventory, provide a buffer that supports uninterrupted supply.

For packaging brands and converters, this reliability is vital. Aluminium’s lightweight, barrier, and recyclable properties make a consistent supply crucial amid rising sustainability expectations. Despite potential short-term market pressures, Al Taweelah continues to underpin flows to more than 50 countries, reinforcing its role as a dependable upstream partner for the global packaging industry.
