Hubergroup Launches First Production Facility for Direct Food Contact Inks in India

Hubergroup’s new DFC ink facility in Silvassa aims to raise the bar for food-safe packaging production.

Hubergroup Print Solutions has officially opened India’s first dedicated facility for manufacturing Direct Food Contact (DFC) inks at its Silvassa site. This milestone marks a strategic development for the packaging industry in India and the broader MEA region, setting a precedent for safer and more sustainable packaging solutions.

The new plant, physically segregated from other production units, is designed specifically to manufacture the MGA CONTACT ink series—formulated for direct application on food packaging materials like paper and cardboard. These inks comply with rigorous international safety standards and are compatible with dispersion varnishes such as the group’s own ACRYLAC DFC, enabling printing on the interior surfaces of food packaging.

All raw materials used in the production process are carefully vetted, and the inks undergo strict quality checks. The manufacturing process adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), with a strong focus on reducing environmental impact and increasing the use of renewable inputs.

“The mission of the new facility is clear: to make packaging safer, more sustainable, and more innovative,” said Prasanta Sarkar, Vice President, Technology Print Solution at hubergroup India. “Our DFC inks and varnishes meet strict global safety standards and are designed with both people and the planet in mind.”

With this development, hubergroup reinforces its global capabilities while providing localized solutions. “This achievement is the result of tireless efforts by our global R&D teams, our partners, and colleagues who believed in this vision,” noted Premal Desai, CEO at hubergroup. “We are proud to have implemented this world-class technology in India, supporting local businesses with global-quality solutions.”

The Silvassa facility not only bolsters hubergroup’s supply chain resilience but also enhances the availability of safer, paper-based packaging alternatives across the MEA region. This initiative aligns with the growing demand for responsible packaging in markets increasingly focused on health, safety, and environmental impact.
