Huhtamaki Flexibles UAE marked a major milestone in its regional growth strategy with the inauguration of its new state-of-the-art pouching hub at its expanded Al Ghail facility in Ras Al Khaimah. The expansion strengthens the company’s role as one of the most integrated flexible packaging converters in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) and aligns with its global sustainability commitments.
“This facility is a reflection of our ambition—to combine world-class manufacturing with real sustainability impact,” said Leyton Bright, General Manager of Huhtamaki Flexibles UAE, during an exclusive visit by Packaging Middle East & Africa magazine. “It’s not just about having a bigger plant; it’s about being smarter, more efficient, and prepared for the circular economy.”
The upgraded plant, which is now a dedicated pouching hub, showcases advanced machinery and streamlined operations geared toward producing recyclable and resource-efficient packaging. The facility supports Huhtamaki’s blueloop™ initiative—a global platform for circular packaging solutions.
Scaling Sustainability Through Innovation
During the launch, Yury Shishkov, Senior Category Manager for the region, highlighted key sustainable innovations being rolled out, including the commercially available blueloop™ Omnilock Ultra Paper—a mono paper solution with high barrier properties. Designed to replace traditional aluminum-based laminates, Omnilock™ Ultra Paper is recyclable and ready for real-world applications.
“We are helping our customers to move into recyclable solutions without disrupting their existing infrastructure” Shishkov said. “We’re not just reacting to regulations—we’re helping shape how businesses prepare for them.”
The timing is strategic, as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations inch closer across the MEA region, food and beverage brands are under pressure to transition to sustainable packaging. Huhtamaki’s phased implementation model allows customers to adopt greener formats without large upfront investments in new machinery.

With five factories across the MEA region—including two in the UAE, two in Egypt, and another in South Africa—Huhtamaki Flexibles is strategically positioned to serve customers efficiently. Its regional supply chain is further reinforced by Printemek ME FZE in JAFZA, Dubai, which manufactures cylinders for the company’s rotogravure printing operations in the UAE, Egypt, and South Africa.
