Mondelēz and Amcor introduce recycled plastic packaging for Cadbury Easter range

Cadbury Mini Eggs and Easter packs shift to higher recycled-content packaging formats

Mondelēz International, in collaboration with Amcor, has introduced recycled plastic packaging across parts of its Cadbury Easter range, focusing on practical, large-scale application in confectionery packaging.

Cadbury Mini Eggs flexible bags now contain 65% certified recycled plastic. In addition, selected Easter tablets are packed in films with 80% recycled content. These materials are supplied through Amcor’s AmFiniti™ range and are allocated using a mass balance system, which links recycled input to final packaging output.

The companies estimate that about 134 tonnes of post-consumer recycled plastic will be used annually for these packs. This is equivalent to packaging around 16 million Easter tablets and 70 million Mini Eggs bags, showing how recycled materials are being used in high-volume seasonal products.

Beyond material changes, the packaging design has also been adjusted. The Cadbury Special Gesture Easter Egg range has replaced its ribbon handle with a recyclable cardboard handle, reducing the use of mixed materials and improving recyclability.

The packs now also carry QR codes that provide information about the recycled content and packaging approach, helping improve transparency for consumers.

The initiative reflects a wider industry move to increase recycled content in food packaging while maintaining product safety, performance, and compliance with food-contact requirements.
