Mondi has announced the expansion of its food packaging portfolio to include corrugated and solid board solutions, following the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging. The move strengthens Mondi’s position in the European food packaging sector, offering a broader range of fibre-based solutions designed to meet regulatory requirements, sustainability targets, and shifting consumer expectations.
The expanded offering addresses packaging needs across multiple food segments, including fresh produce, meat and seafood, dairy, frozen foods, snacks, beverages, and eCommerce grocery. Solutions include ventilated trays, leakproof boxes, multipacks, wraps, and point-of-sale displays, along with customised shelf-ready packaging designed for enhanced visibility and brand impact.
Mondi’s new capabilities include high-performance solid board products and extended digital printing, with the addition of white ink on brown substrates. These developments aim to meet rising demand for customised, shelf-appealing packaging across retail channels. Lightweight and smaller pack formats are also supported, aligning with trends in portion control and material optimisation.
“The food sector is undergoing rapid change, with sustainability targets, EU legislation and shifting consumer behaviours all driving new requirements for packaging. By expanding our portfolio, we can help customers respond to these trends with solutions that are lighter, more sustainable and optimised for shelf appeal,” said Paulus Goëss, Chief Operating Officer Corrugated Solutions, Mondi.
The acquisition of Schumacher Packaging also boosts Mondi’s regional manufacturing footprint, enhancing supply flexibility across Europe. With the support of accredited food safety labs and ThinkBox innovation hubs, the company continues to develop tested and compliant packaging that meets strict hygiene and performance standards.
Mondi’s expanded printing capabilities—including digital, flexo, and offset—enable faster turnaround and greater customisation. The integrated portfolio supports both private-label and branded manufacturers in aligning with EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and advancing circular packaging goals.
