Mondi’s paper-based and recyclable packaging solutions set new benchmarks for functionality, circularity, and sector-specific performance.
Mondi has reinforced its leadership in sustainable packaging with nine of its innovations recognised at the 2026 WorldStar Packaging Awards, organised by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO). Rather than celebrating the awards alone, the real story lies in the technical and environmental advancements that made these solutions stand out across eCommerce, food, industrial, and consumer applications.
Each awarded entry reflects a tailored response to a specific packaging challenge—delivering innovation through material science, design optimisation, and circular economy principles:
- Protective Mailer for eCommerce: A fully paper-based padded mailer offering both recyclability and robust protection—innovative for eliminating plastic bubble wrap while maintaining cushioning performance during transit.
- FreshFood Box: A fibre-based insulation solution that replaces EPS (expanded polystyrene) in chilled food delivery, offering thermal protection using recyclable cardboard—a major step forward in sustainable cold-chain packaging.
- Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible: A high-strength kraft paper engineered for high-speed form-fill-seal lines, combining durability with runnability—pushing the boundaries of paper’s performance in automated packaging.
- re/cycle HiProtex Paper: A recyclable, high-barrier paper solution that replaces aluminum-based laminates in dry food and powdered applications—addressing the recyclability challenge of traditional multi-layer packaging.
- re/cycle ProtectorBAG PocketForm: A flexible paper-based alternative to plastic films for small parts and accessories, offering formability, protection, and recyclability in one format—critical for component shipping.
- re/cycle CompressWrap: A compressible, paper-based packaging solution for bulky products like mattresses—enabling compact shipping without plastic while maintaining structural integrity.
- re/cycle VacuumPack: A mono-material, recyclable vacuum pack for coffee and similar products, designed to run on existing machinery—combining environmental benefits with production efficiency.
- 3in1 Separator: A corrugated cardboard insert that replaces EPS in the transport of electronic components—innovative for reducing plastic use while providing shock absorption and modular design.
- Koala Display: A point-of-sale retail packaging solution that integrates shelf-ready features with consumer appeal—minimising material waste and optimising in-store logistics.
In addition to these nine, Mondi was also recognised for its collaboration with Werner & Mertz on the StripPouch, a flexible pouch for fabric softener made from post-consumer recycled plastic—highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation across both paper and plastic substrates.
“We are very proud that nine of our solutions have been recognised,” said Andrew King, CEO of Mondi Group. “These awards highlight our teams’ ability to combine innovation, performance and sustainability, and to translate ambitious goals into practical packaging solutions.”
The awarded projects will be honoured at the 2026 WorldStar Packaging Awards ceremony on 8 May in Düsseldorf, but their true impact lies in enabling the future of packaging—functional, recyclable, and ready for real-world demands.
