Mondi Rotatrim Rebrand Emphasises Local Design and Sustainability in South Africa

Mondi Rotatrim new look

Mondi, a global player in sustainable packaging and paper, has unveiled a new brand identity for Mondi Rotatrim, its premium multifunctional office paper and one of South Africa’s most recognised paper brands. The redesign balances modern African-inspired visuals with product enhancements to reinforce the company’s local focus, sustainability credentials and social impact.

The refreshed packaging features bold patterns and textures drawn from regional art and design traditions. Mondi says the update not only modernises the brand appearance but also reflects a strategic objective to strengthen local supply chains, reduce dependence on imports and support economic resilience in South Africa. The new look aligns with Mondi’s broader purpose-led growth agenda.

Technical improvements include increased paper caliper to boost stiffness and printing performance across photocopying, laser and inkjet applications. The paper retains its signature high whiteness level of 160 CIE and compliance with local and international standards. Mondi emphasises that quality remains unchanged, even as packaging aesthetics evolve.

Sustainability remains central to the Mondi Rotatrim proposition. Produced in Durban’s Merebank mill, the paper holds FSC® certification (C010575) and maintains the company’s status as a Level 1 contributor under South Africa’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) framework. Mondi Rotatrim recently achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze status, meeting requirements for material health, circularity, clean air and climate protection, water stewardship and social fairness.

Mondi partners with WWF South Africa on water stewardship and climate resilience initiatives, extending a 30-year collaboration through 2027 with over €680,000 in funding. All Mondi forestry plantations in South Africa now carry both FSC® and PEFC certification.

Through Mondi Zimele, Mondi supports over 3,800 small-scale timber growers and distributed 5.3 million seedlings in 2024.
