Özler Tarım cuts food waste in exports with Mondi’s recyclable corrugated packaging

Corrugated packaging designed for sea freight helps preserve product quality in international fresh produce exports.

Adana, Türkiye – Fresh produce exporter Özler Tarım has partnered with Mondi to develop a recyclable corrugated packaging solution that has significantly reduced food waste and increased efficiency in global shipments.

Faced with the challenge of protecting fruits and vegetables during long sea freight journeys, Özler Tarım required packaging that could withstand temperature fluctuations, humidity, and stacking pressure. In response, Mondi collaborated with the company to create a double-wall corrugated tray tailored for international logistics.

The packaging is 100% recyclable and flat-stackable, offering improved durability during transit and better space utilisation in storage and shipping. According to Özler Tarım, the new solution has led to a 15% increase in production capacity at its Adana facility by eliminating box collapse and reducing product damage.

“The packaging’s durability has made a noticeable difference, withstanding the humidity and movement of long sea voyages,” said Mehtap İncesöz, Planning & Supply Chain Manager at Özler Tarım. “It ensures that our produce arrives undamaged, which not only preserves product quality but also reflects the integrity of our brand.”

Mondi Corrugated Turkey’s Sales and Marketing Director, Metin Morhayim, added, “With Özler Tarım, we were able to combine technical innovation with a deep understanding of their production flow and export demands.”

The development supports both companies’ goals to operate more sustainably and reduce food waste. It also highlights the potential of tailored packaging in improving supply chain resilience and environmental performance across export markets.
