Sibeg installs first aseptic PET line with Sidel to boost in-house production

Sibeg enhances efficiency and sustainability with a new aseptic PET line at its Catania facility

Sibeg Srl, the official bottler of The Coca-Cola Company in Sicily, has partnered with Sidel to install its first aseptic PET line at its production site in Catania. The move brings the production of sensitive beverages, previously outsourced, in-house for the first time.

The new 18,000 bottles-per-hour line includes Sidel’s Aseptic Combi Predis, EvoFilm Stretch, and PalKombi machines, alongside digital solutions. Sibeg says the project supports its goals to reduce emissions and streamline operations. The company is targeting zero emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 2030 and full carbon neutrality by 2032.

Sibeg CEO Luca Busi stated: “This move reflects our strategic effort to both expand our product portfolio and enhance flexibility in meeting customer demands, while also cutting down on pollution from truck transport from Northern Italy.”

The Aseptic Combi Predis integrates preform sterilisation, blow moulding, filling, and capping into one system, using a dry hydrogen peroxide mist that reduces water and chemical consumption. It enables Sibeg to produce various formats of energy drinks and teas without preservatives while maintaining food safety standards.

The EvoFilm Stretch, also installed, replaces traditional shrink-wrapping with an ambient temperature stretch-wrapping process. According to Sibeg’s Operations Director Gianluca Tornatore, this has lowered plastic use from 26 grams to 6 grams per pack and reduced energy use by up to 90%.

Sibeg also implemented Sidel’s Evo-ON Flex software to guide operators through bottle changeovers, improving efficiency and reducing downtime.

Tornatore added: “The Sidel team were deeply committed to meeting our needs and timelines at every stage, from line design to ramp-up, while navigating the challenges of meeting Coca-Cola’s stringent safety standards.”
