Britannia Industries Limited has commissioned its first aseptic PET packaging line for its Winkin’ Cow dairy drinks portfolio, with the system supplied by Sidel. The line has been installed at Britannia’s greenfield dairy facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, India.

Britannia entered the value-added dairy drinks segment in 2018 under the Winkin’ Cow brand and selected Sidel to deliver a complete aseptic PET packaging solution. The scope covered line design, technical planning, installation, commissioning and ramp-up.

“Sidel offered Britannia end-to-end support, enabling them to unlock the full potential of their dairy beverage,” said Harbinder Kathuria, Vice President, Sales, South Asia. “From bottle and label design to product-packaging validation, the line has empowered Britannia to expand its dairy beverage portfolio and offer safe, high-quality products with enhanced packaging flexibility to Indian consumers since 2023.”

According to Britannia, support extended beyond equipment supply. “The support from Sidel wasn’t limited to the line equipment; it went much further,” said Abhishek Sinha, Chief Sales Transformation Officer, Britannia. “Sidel offered a comprehensive range of services, including new packaging concept design, packaging validation, label recommendations, custom filling tests and shelf-life studies.”

The installed line features Sidel’s Aseptic Combi Predis, operating at 24,000 bottles per hour. The system integrates preform sterilisation, blow moulding, filling and capping. Predis dry preform decontamination uses hydrogen peroxide injection before oven heating to achieve decontamination while minimising the sterile zone. Critical parameters are continuously monitored to maintain sterility and product integrity.

The line accommodates three bottle formats ranging from 180ml to 1L. The dry decontamination process reduces water and chemical consumption while supporting food safety requirements.
