Sun Chemical Launches Sustainable UV Offset Ink Series for Plastic Cups

Sun Chemical’s SunCure EcoPlast inks are designed to improve recyclability of printed plastic cups while meeting food packaging safety standards.

Sun Chemical has introduced SunCure EcoPlast, a new press-ready dry UV offset ink range designed for decorating plastic cups with enhanced sustainability.

The SunCure EcoPlast series offers a combination of high adhesion, fast curing speed, low migration, and post-consumer washability, enabling printed inks to be removed during recycling. This feature supports reprocessing and reuse of plastic substrates, contributing to higher quality recycled materials.

“SunCure EcoPlast is a one-of-a-kind plastic decorating ink technology offering high adhesion, fast cure, low migration food packaging compliance and washability that improves plastic recyclability,” said Jim Bishop, Product Manager of Offset Packaging Inks at Sun Chemical. “The unique technical benefits of SunCure EcoPlast inks contribute to an improved circular economy while meeting demand for optimal press performance at the same time.”

The inks are compatible with MX12 automated dispensing equipment to facilitate on-site blending of spot colors. Additionally, they are designed to comply with the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) guidelines and pass recyclability testing under recommended curing conditions.

SunCure EcoPlast inks are also formulated to meet stringent food packaging safety requirements, including FDA low-migration standards for both aqueous and fatty foods, making them suitable for a broad range of packaging applications.

With this launch, Sun Chemical aims to support converters and brand owners seeking solutions that align with evolving sustainability targets and regulatory demands in the packaging sector.
