Tadweer, Masdar and BEEAH align strategies in Sharjah waste-to-energy transition

Strategic reshuffle among Tadweer, Masdar, and BEEAH highlights evolving priorities in UAE’s waste-to-energy sector.

Tadweer Group has acquired Masdar’s stake in the Sharjah Waste-to-Energy plant, joining BEEAH as a new partner in the Emirates Waste-to-Energy joint venture. The agreement, which remains subject to standard closing conditions, represents a strategic realignment among three of the UAE’s major sustainability-focused entities.

Masdar, officially known as Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, is shifting focus towards its core operations in renewable energy generation. The company is targeting a global clean energy portfolio of 100 GW by 2030. Commenting on the transition, Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi said, “We are confident that Tadweer and BEEAH will continue to advance the project with strong leadership and a clear strategic vision.”

For Tadweer Group, the acquisition marks a step toward strengthening its UAE operations and supporting its international expansion goals in waste management. Ali Al Dhaheri, Tadweer Group’s Managing Director and CEO, stated, “Acquiring this high-performing asset will further enhance Tadweer Group’s capabilities and support the UAE’s ambition to become a global leader in sustainable waste management and energy conversion.”

The Sharjah Waste-to-Energy plant, launched in 2022, is the Middle East’s first commercial-scale facility of its kind. It currently produces 30 MW of electricity from non-recyclable waste and is set to double both its energy output and waste processing capacity. The plant is owned and operated by the Emirates Waste-to-Energy company.

BEEAH, which has partnered with Masdar on the project from inception, will now work with Tadweer to drive the next phase of development. “We look forward to further building on these accomplishments alongside Tadweer Group,” said Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO of BEEAH Group.

All three organizations remain aligned in supporting the UAE’s broader sustainability goals.
