The Meliha Dairy Factory in Sharjah was officially inaugurated by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, marking the launch of a fully integrated dairy production and packaging operation in the United Arab Emirates. A central feature of the project is the deployment of Tetra Pak’s carton packaging technology, which forms a core part of the facility’s production infrastructure.
Under a formal collaboration involving the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Ektifa, the factory is equipped with Tetra Pak’s Tetra Top® filling and packaging line. The system enables milk, yogurt, and dairy beverages produced at the plant to be packed in carton-based, recyclable packaging rather than plastic bottles. The packaging lines inaugurated at the site are designed for high-volume output, with the capacity to process thousands of packs per hour while meeting international food safety and quality standards.
Sustainability is a key focus of the packaging strategy. The use of carton packaging supports lower material use and improved handling efficiency compared with traditional rigid plastic formats, aligning the project with broader sustainability objectives in food and beverage packaging.
In parallel with the factory opening, the Meliha Dairy Farm supplying the facility was recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest A2A2 cattle farm. The operation maintains more than 6,400 A2A2 cows, a breed associated with producing milk containing a specific protein profile. The record relates solely to the scale of the cattle farm and is independent of the processing and packaging operations at the factory in the UAE.
