TotalEnergies Corbion appoints Multi Trade Group as Middle East distributor for Luminy® PLA

The partnership aims to expand access to PLA bioplastics across packaging and related sectors in the Middle East.

Sharjah, UAE, 2 September 2025 – TotalEnergies Corbion has entered into a strategic distribution agreement with Multi Trade Group, designating the company as its primary distributor for Luminy® PLA (polylactic acid) in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the wider Middle East.

Luminy® PLA is a bioplastic derived from renewable resources. It offers a combination of strength for reusable applications and options for end-of-life disposal, including mechanical and chemical recycling, reuse, and industrial composting. The product breaks down faster than common organic waste such as banana or orange peels under industrial composting conditions.

The product line includes high-heat, standard, and low-heat PLA grades, as well as PDLA for stereocomplex applications. It serves multiple sectors including packaging, food service ware, textiles, 3D printing, and consumer goods. The agreement also includes recycled Luminy® PLA grades with 30% and 100% recycled content.

According to life cycle analysis data provided by TotalEnergies Corbion, virgin Luminy® PLA has a cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of 0.29 kg CO₂-eq per kg—an 85% reduction compared to conventional plastics. The 30% recycled content version reaches near carbon neutrality at 0.01 kg CO₂-eq per kg, while the 100% recycled grade achieves a negative footprint of -0.65 kg CO₂-eq per kg.

“As a company, we are committed to delivering sustainability, recyclability, and solutions that reduce our carbon footprint and waste impact,” said Asif Iftekhar, CEO of Multi Trade Group.

TotalEnergies Corbion operates a 75,000 tons-per-year PLA production facility in Rayong, Thailand, and is engaged in chemical recycling via hydrolysis depolymerization.

The partnership aims to support regional efforts to reduce emissions and promote circular economy practices.
