Toyo Ink Europe rolls out GIO-compliant UV flexo and UV offset inks

Toyo Ink Europe N.V. has rolled out a full portfolio of ultraviolet (UV) curable inks that meet migration limits under the German Printing Ink Ordinance (GIO), the company said on February 24, 2026, from Niel, Belgium. The lineup covers UV and UV/LED flexographic inks and UV offset inks intended for food packaging applications.

According to Toyo Ink Europe, the GIO-compliant portfolio was tested over the past year to support low-migration use and regulatory readiness. The business is the European energy-curing inks division of Japan’s artience Group.

“We’re extremely proud of being one of the first ink makers to bring a GIO-compliant UV and LED inks to market,” said Ismail Yilmaz, General Manager Sales & Corporate Strategy. He added that the company’s GIO-compliant UV flexo ink systems were launched in June 2025 and that UV offset inks were introduced at Labelexpo Europe in September 2025. Yilmaz said Toyo Ink Europe worked with five developmental partners and noted that the GIO enforcement date is set for January 2027.

The flexo range includes Steraflex UV for labels and packaging across non-absorbent substrates such as PE, PP and PET and absorbent substrates such as paper and board. Steraflex GIO LED targets LED-UV flexo printing.

For offset printing, Steraboard UV and Steraplast UV are positioned for paper, board and non-absorbent substrates. The company also said its LED Offset Food series has been renamed EkoPro LED as an LED GIO-compatible offset option. Toyo Ink Europe said the inks aim to help converters prepare for compliance deadlines.
