UPM Raflatac receives APR Design® recognition for BOPP label solution

UPM Raflatac’s BOPP labels: a sustainable choice for HDPE and PP packaging.

UPM Raflatac, a global supplier of self-adhesive paper and film products, has received recognition from the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) for three types of biaxially-oriented polypropylene (BOPP) label products for their compatibility with HDPE and PP package recycling. These include Undecorated BOPP with hotmelt adhesive, Undecorated BOPP with RW85C, and Metalized undecorated BOPP with general purpose acrylic adhesive.

Kyle Strenski, Business Director, UPM Raflatac Americas, expressed the company’s commitment to sustainability: “We are honored to once again be recognized for our continued commitment to supporting the transition to a more circular economy. This new guidance will help us further provide more sustainable solutions to our customers and brand owners.”

The APR Design® for Recyclability Recognition validates that a package or packaging component’s design is compatible with the North American recycling system. UPM Raflatac’s BOPP products have met the highest criteria for recyclability according to the APR Design® Guide, specifically for HDPE and PP recycling.

Steve Alexander, APR President & CEO, commended UPM Raflatac for their efforts: “APR congratulates UPM Raflatac for taking action to improve the recyclability of packaging and taking the steps to receive APR Design® Recognition. Recyclable packaging means less waste, more efficient use of limited natural resources, and more high-quality post-consumer resin for new products.”
