Wanhua Chemical will present a range of high-performance and sustainable packaging materials at K 2025, the world’s leading trade fair for plastics and rubber, held from October 8 to 15 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Known for its extensive research in rubber and plastic materials, Wanhua Chemical is expected to demonstrate significant advancements in sustainable packaging solutions, with a particular focus on recyclability, bio-based materials, and industrial-scale integration of circular economy practices.
Among the highlights, Wanhua will showcase its low-residue PVC pharmaceutical packaging and advanced TPU and PVC materials designed for medical infusion tubes. These materials address critical needs for both performance and safety in medical packaging, a sector increasingly aligned with environmental sustainability goals.
Wanhua’s development of recyclable thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and polycarbonate (rPC) represents a notable move toward reducing packaging waste. Its recyclable TPU incorporates 30% recycled content and achieves a 20% reduction in carbon emissions, while its physically recycled PC—sourced from used automotive components and industrial materials—is reprocessed into high-quality rPC suitable for new applications.
Further innovations include chemical recycling of polycarbonate waste into bisphenol A, a foundational compound in the production of new PC materials. This breakthrough underlines Wanhua’s effort to close the loop in polymer use and reduce dependency on virgin feedstock.
Also debuting at K 2025 will be Wanhua’s bio-based TPU and PEBA (polyether block amide) products. These materials offer reduced carbon footprints while maintaining the performance needed for packaging applications in healthcare, consumer electronics, and specialty goods.
“By combining high-performance polymer design with environmentally responsible processes, we’re helping the packaging industry meet increasing demands for circularity and lower emissions,” said a Wanhua Chemical spokesperson.
Wanhua is also introducing PSU and PPSU sulfone polymers for the first time at K Show. These heat-resistant and chemically stable materials are ideal for reusable and sterilizable packaging solutions, particularly in the healthcare sector.
With its stated goal of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2048 (Scope 1+2), Wanhua Chemical is aligning its innovations with broader global sustainability targets. The company will exhibit at Booth C43 in Hall 6.
As packaging industries face rising pressure to innovate sustainably, Wanhua’s participation at K 2025 underscores the growing role of advanced materials in addressing both performance and environmental challenges.
