Algeria’s National Recovery and Valorisation Company (SNRV) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Slovakia’s BK Investment to develop an industrial waste recovery project, reinforcing efforts to improve resource efficiency and promote circular economy practices.
The agreement, signed on 11 October 2026 at the headquarters of Algeria’s National Iron and Steel Industry Holding Group (SNS Holding), focuses on the treatment and recovery of waste generated by the iron and steel industry.
The MoU was signed by SNRV Chairman and CEO Abdelhak Bezzahi and BK Investment Chairman and CEO Khalil Belmachri, in the presence of SNS Holding Director General Slimane Arar and representatives of both companies.
According to SNS Holding, the cooperation aims to strengthen the recovery of valuable materials from industrial waste streams, improve the utilisation of manufacturing by-products and contribute to sustainable industrial development.
The initiative highlights the growing importance of material recovery and waste valorisation in industrial sustainability strategies, including those relevant to packaging manufacturing and its upstream supply chains.
For the metal packaging sector, efficient recovery and recycling systems are particularly relevant to the circular use of steel in applications such as food cans, closures and industrial containers. However, the announced project specifically targets steel industry waste, with no direct packaging application confirmed.
The proposed cooperation also reflects broader efforts to retain material value within industrial production cycles while reducing waste disposal requirements and improving resource utilisation.
The agreement establishes a framework for further cooperation, with technical and commercial details yet to be announced.
