Berry Global introduces SilotitePro1800 Sustane: A sustainable balewrap solution

SilotitePro1800 Sustane 23 μm film with 25% PCR.

Berry Global’s Silotite® brand, known for its balewrap products, has unveiled a new film incorporating 25% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) into its lineup of agricultural films, known as the B Circular Range. Named SilotitePro1800 Sustane, this new addition aims to enhance the environmental footprint of the product while maintaining high performance.

According to Berry Global, the integration of recycled content into the SilotitePro1800 Sustane film aligns with its Five-Pillar program focused on enhancing sustainability within the Silotite brand. This initiative builds upon the advantages offered by its pre-orientated ProTechnology. Moreover, the SilotitePro1800 Sustane film boasts a longer reel length compared to the original 25 μm, 1500m film, enabling customers to wrap more bales per reel, thus saving time and preserving silage quality.

Incorporating recycled content into the production process serves the dual purpose of supporting the circular economy and reducing waste sent to landfills or incineration. Berry Global claims that life cycle analysis data supports the environmental benefits of using SilotitePro1800 Sustane 23 μm film with 25% PCR, indicating a 24% reduction in environmental impact compared to standard Silotite® 25 μm film with no recycled content.

Furthermore, SilotitePro1800 Sustane film has received certification from RecyClass, ensuring full traceability of the recycled content’s origin. The product’s packaging, conveniently housed in a polyethylene (PE) sleeve, enables the recycling of both the balewrap and outer packaging together, eliminating the need for separation.

Bart Geeraert, Commercial Director of Berry Global’s European Agricultural Films business, expressed pride in offering customers a range of films that meet high-performance standards while addressing sustainability concerns. He emphasized, “The introduction of SilotitePro1800 Sustane film, alongside the other initiatives in our five-pillar sustainability program, achieve these aims.”
