Bormioli Luigi has introduced Swing, a new refillable glass lipstick model that extends its existing makeup packaging collection. The launch follows the company’s earlier Murano line, which was developed for lip gloss and mascara.
Presented at the Luxe Pack trade show in Monaco, Swing is designed with a slim, transparent glass body that aims to combine a refined aesthetic with sustainability. The lipstick’s design supports easy disassembly, allowing the components to be separated for recycling.
The key feature of Swing is its reduced glass content, achieved through thinner walls and a narrower cross-section than previous models. According to the company, this design allows for up to 15% post-consumer recycled (PCR) glass to be used in production. The central ring, which supports the lipstick mechanism, is made from plastic for functional reasons but can also be manufactured using other recyclable materials.
Bormioli Luigi states that this part maintains mechanical resistance and the required “click” closure. It can be removed to facilitate the separation of materials during the recycling process. Swing is refillable, enabling repeated use of the outer glass case while only replacing the inner refill.
The design supports a range of decorative finishes, including interior and exterior lacquers, metallization, screen printing, varnishes, and glazes. Displayed at the trade show in red, black, and silver versions, the product allows for full customization of both the outer case and the central ring, offering brands multiple options for differentiation.
Bormioli Luigi emphasizes the packaging’s durability and modular nature, which supports extended product life cycles and aligns with circular packaging principles. The Swing model reflects the company’s ongoing approach to glass packaging innovations, particularly in the cosmetics sector, where design and recyclability are increasingly interlinked in product development strategies.
