Boxon launches first food-contact approved rPET Big Bags in EMEA

Recycled PET Big Bag designed for industrial use and approved for direct food contact applications.

Boxon is launching a new generation of recycled polyethylene terephthalate rPET Big Bags across Europe, Middle East and Africa starting in week 12 introducing what it describes as the first recycled Big Bag approved for direct food contact in the region.

The product is manufactured from recycled PET bottles and is designed for use in food chemical and other industrial applications.

The development comes as companies face increasing regulatory and operational pressures including requirements linked to the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and corporate sustainability targets.

According to Boxon the rPET Big Bags combine recycled content with durability for bulk handling environments while maintaining compliance with food safety standards.

“Companies today need packaging solutions that support both compliance and operational efficiency,” says Florence Abgrall, Business Unit Manager at Boxon. “Our rPET Big Bags make it possible to transition to recycled materials without compromising durability, handling performance or supply reliability, while also meeting strict food-contact requirements.”

The company states that the bags offer a lower carbon footprint compared with virgin polypropylene alternatives, alongside improved UV resistance, abrasion resistance and form stability during transport and handling.

Temperature resistance ranges from minus 20 degrees Celsius to plus 140 degrees Celsius.

Boxon also reports that the material enables clearer print quality supporting traceability and identification in regulated supply chains.

The launch marks an expansion of recycled material use in industrial flexible intermediate bulk containers within the EMEA market.

The company plans a phased introduction across regional markets, targeting sectors that require certified materials for contact with food and sensitive products.

The announcement reflects broader efforts to integrate recycled content into industrial packaging formats while maintaining performance and compliance requirements across supply chains and end use environments.
