BW Packaging, the packaging machinery business of Barry-Wehmiller, introduced the Hayssen X650 long-dwell flow wrapper on 28 October 2026, expanding its range of flow wrapping equipment for food manufacturers operating in hygiene-sensitive production environments.
The new bottom-fed machine is designed primarily for cheese packaging, with applications also identified in individually quick-frozen foods and fresh produce. It is intended for operations requiring hermetic seals, sanitation procedures and protection of packaged products.
The X650 joins the Hayssen X850 in the company’s flow wrapping portfolio. According to BW Packaging, the machine uses long-dwell sealing technology and full washdown construction and can operate at speeds of up to 150 packs per minute.
A jam detection function monitors product positioning at the sealing jaws. When a product is incorrectly positioned, the jaws detect the obstruction and open before making contact. The system is designed to limit product damage and prevent contamination of the seal area.
After detecting a misplaced product, the machine can produce a double-length package and identify it for removal downstream, provided an optional rejection system has been installed.
The X650 also incorporates RFID login, recipe-driven machine settings and BW Packaging’s OpView human-machine interface. The company says these controls are intended to simplify equipment operation, changeovers and troubleshooting during production.
Meeghan Sheppard, product manager for flow wrapping at BW Packaging, said: “Manufacturers operating in high-hygiene environments face increasing pressure to maintain product quality while improving operational efficiency.”
The company has positioned the machine for manufacturers seeking to manage seal integrity and sanitation alongside daily requirements in food production. Its introduction adds a bottom-fed, long-dwell configuration to the existing Hayssen equipment range, with an emphasis on consistent sealing and controlled handling of misplaced products.
