CCL Industries, a leading provider of specialty label, security, and packaging solutions, has announced the official opening of its new sustainable sleeve label hub in Dornbirn, Austria. The move from its former site in Hohenems was completed in January 2024, marking a significant transition for the company.
The modern production facility, representing a €50 million investment, boasts an expanded footprint of 20,000 square meters and features state-of-the-art production equipment. This move signifies a strategic investment in enhancing production capabilities and promoting sustainability within the industry.
Günther Birkner, a member of CCL’s management team, highlights the advancements brought by the relocation, stating, “The move brings a lot of improvements. Not only is the building state of the art and provides a modern workplace for our employees, but the technology is also state of the art.”
The focus of the new facility is on producing premium and sustainable shrink sleeves, utilizing the company’s proven EcoFloat® decoration technology. Jens Winkler, General Manager, explains, “At Dornbirn, we focus on the latest sustainable shrink sleeve technology – made from floatable low-density polyolefin material.”
The EcoFloat® sleeves are designed to facilitate efficient recycling by easily separating from the primary container during the recycling process. This innovation aligns with CCL’s commitment to sustainability and supports the industry’s efforts towards a circular economy.
Bernd Schmidle, Production Manager at CCL Dornbirn, underscores the green features incorporated into the new facility, including a PV system on the roof with over 2,000 panels. Schmidle notes, “The system produces the equivalent of 721,000 kWh per year, equivalent to the annual consumption of around 200 households.”
The new site has already obtained several certifications, including ISO14001, ISO9001, BRC Packaging, and DPG, reflecting CCL’s dedication to maintaining high standards of quality and sustainability.
