DuPont Cyrel Flexographic Solutions has received Certified Energy Savings recognition from GreenCircle for its Cyrel FAST thermal platemaking workflow, confirming reduced energy consumption in flexographic printing applications widely used in packaging production.
GreenCircle Certified, an independent third-party certification body, verified that the Cyrel FAST workflow delivers measurable reductions in energy use compared to solvent-based platemaking systems. The certification is based on a 96-hour testing cycle comparing power consumption across both processes.
According to the assessment, the Cyrel FAST system achieves 20% lower energy consumption than conventional solvent workflows. The thermal process eliminates the need for solvents, removing associated handling, distillation and disposal requirements within packaging print operations.
Tucker Norton, Vice President and General Manager of Printing and Films, said the solvent-free process reduces environmental impact and supports safer production environments in printing facilities.
DuPont’s life cycle assessments indicate that Cyrel-based flexographic printing can offer environmental advantages over gravure, particularly in packaging applications where process efficiency and emissions reduction are key considerations.
The Cyrel FAST workflow reduces volatile organic compound emissions by up to 99.8% compared to solvent-based processes and lowers global warming potential by 48%. It also supports production efficiency, with platemaking speeds up to 75% faster than traditional methods.
DuPont stated that the Cyrel FAST system contributes to reducing Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining consistent plate quality and performance across packaging print applications.
