Husky Technologies has entered into a strategic collaboration with SEM Plastik, through its medical division SEM Biotech, to support the production of blood collection tubes in Türkiye. The partnership marks SEM’s expansion into the medical manufacturing sector, building on its established plastics and packaging operations.
As part of the agreement, SEM Biotech has implemented Husky’s ICHOR™ integrated medical system, which combines injection molding equipment, molds, auxiliaries, and process monitoring into a unified production platform. The system is designed to support consistent product quality, traceability, and operational control, which are critical in regulated medical applications.
Production is being carried out under the Vacusem brand at a facility operating in an ISO 8 cleanroom environment. The plant has an annual production capacity of approximately 500 million blood collection tubes and is aligned with European Union standards, targeting both domestic and export markets.
The collaboration reflects a broader trend of plastics processors diversifying into higher-value medical applications, leveraging existing expertise in injection molding and materials processing. For SEM Plastik, the move represents a strategic shift towards healthcare manufacturing, while strengthening its position in international markets.
Husky indicated that its integrated system approach is intended to simplify production workflows, improve cycle efficiency, and reduce material waste. The project also includes technical training and process optimisation support to ensure stable, long-term operations.
The initiative is expected to contribute to Türkiye’s growing role in the regional medical device supply chain, particularly in high-volume consumables such as blood collection tubes.
