Tetra Pak announced in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 6 October 2026 that it is advancing commercialisation of Tetra Pak Ice Cream Wrap, a wrapping solution made from up to 85% paper, to expand packaging options for ice cream producers responding to changing consumer preferences.
The paper is sourced from FSC-certified forests and other controlled sources. According to Tetra Pak, the wrap is designed to provide the protection required throughout the cold chain while supporting manufacturing operations. The solution is undergoing validation with ice cream producers across Europe, including Swedish manufacturer Triumf Glass. Trials are assessing its performance in live production environments and gathering consumer insights before wider commercialisation.
Tetra Pak said research indicates that 24% of consumers globally consider sustainability an important aspect of ice cream packaging, while 16% prefer paper packaging for the category. The wrap has a thin profile and a multilayer structure intended to protect products, support material efficiency and enable reliable operations. Its development draws on Tetra Pak’s more than 70 years of experience in paper-based food packaging and its knowledge of ice cream production.
Peter Lindstrom, Vice President, Food Solutions at Tetra Pak, said the new wrap combined the familiar appearance of paper with the functionality required for ice cream products. “Packaging is becoming an increasingly important way for brands to differentiate, attract attention and respond to changing consumer expectations,” he said.
Moa Frisk Lönnblom, Marketing Director at Triumf Glass, said the company was exploring the wrap with Tetra Pak as part of its innovation activities.
The validation programme will help Tetra Pak assess how the material performs during production and understand consumer responses as it prepares to commercialise the wrapping solution more widely for producers.
