Addressing the pressing concerns surrounding food security in Iraq, Tetra Pak, a global leader in food and beverage processing and packaging solutions, has announced a significant collaboration with Saudi Arabian Al Rabie and Iraqi Alssad Company during the Gulfood 2024 event.

The partnership aims to tackle the increasing demand for food and beverages in Iraq’s expanding population. According to the United Nations Population Division, Iraq experienced a population growth rate of 2.27% in 2023, with a current population of 46,153,285. The joint effort sets an ambitious target of producing 50 million packaged beverages, catering to both family and portion packs, to address the current population needs.

Scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2024, the initiative will facilitate an end-to-end solution for the production of Juice, Nectar, Still Drinks (JNSD), and Dairy products. Leveraging Tetra Pak’s advanced equipment and expertise, Al Rabie’s products will be co-packed at Alssad’s facility in Baghdad. This collaboration aims to bring diversity to the Iraqi market, effectively meeting the evolving consumer needs and contributing to the local population’s well-being.

Expressing enthusiasm for the venture, Bassem Sabra, CEO of Al Rabie, stated, “Expanding into Iraq through our partnership with Tetra Pak and Alssad is invigorating. We are delighted to offer Iraqi consumers our high-quality products, addressing their diverse needs through this impactful venture.”

Managing Partner at Alssad, Ghassan Sabeeh, highlighted the significance of the project in addressing food security, stating, “This collaboration signifies a commitment to the well-being of the Iraqi population.”

Niels Hougaard, Managing Director at Tetra Pak Arabia Area, emphasized the power of collaboration, stating, “The partnership with Al Rabie and Alssad allows us to address a critical challenge. By working together, we advance our collective goals and ensure the well-being of populations, such as in Iraq.”

Through this transformative co-packing initiative, the partners aim to positively impact the lives of the Iraqi people by combining global expertise, quality products, and local knowledge. Beyond business, the collaboration focuses on providing nourishment, fostering sustainability, and meeting the immediate needs of Iraq while contributing to a resilient and brighter future.
