Title: Lactips and SmartSolve launch water-soluble flexible packaging samples

Lactips and SmartSolve have introduced water-soluble, microplastic-free flexible packaging samples for beauty, cosmetics and personal care applications at Edition Spéciale by Luxe Pack in Paris.

The companies said the samples are market-ready and designed to provide a plastic-free alternative for single-use packaging formats used by brands in the personal care sector.

The solutions are based on PureNil™ 0, a bio-based functionalised paper developed by SmartSolve. According to the companies, the material enables printable flexible packaging that disperses rapidly in water and does not leave microplastic residues. The development combines SmartSolve’s water-soluble paper technology with Lactips’ work in natural polymers that are 100% biobased, water-soluble and biodegradable in various environments.

“Water-soluble, plastic-free materials have the potential to transform single-use packaging, particularly in beauty and personal care. This collaboration demonstrates how innovation can translate into practical, scalable solutions,” said Bertrand Dupeyroux, VP sales and marketing at Lactips.

Jonathan Jakubowski, CEO and co-founder of SmartSolve, said: “Lactips has been the ideal partner in delivering plastic-free innovation, which has accelerated our journey toward making packaging no longer trash.”

Lactips said the initiative forms the start of a wider collaboration aimed at supporting the adoption of plastic-free packaging solutions globally. SmartSolve said its portfolio includes water-soluble papers, labels and pouches, with PureNil™ 0 positioned as a plastic-free, dispersible, printable flexible packaging substrate for brands seeking alternatives to conventional single-use materials in selected applications and addressing end-of-life concerns in premium packaging formats and small-volume flexible packs, where disposal and residue remain key considerations for brand buyers.
