XSYS introduces EcoFillX Software for ThermoFlexX Imagers

XSYS has unveiled EcoFillX, a groundbreaking software feature designed for ThermoFlexX imagers, aimed at reducing washout solvent consumption. This development focuses on the non-image areas of photopolymer printing plates, marking a significant stride towards enhancing the sustainability of the flexographic platemaking process.

“Sustainability is a paramount concern for all manufacturers today, and XSYS is committed to driving innovation that supports our customers’ environmentally friendly practices,” said Dirk De Rauw, Senior Optical Designer at XSYS. “EcoFillX, alongside other environmental initiatives from XSYS, is poised to make a substantial impact on the carbon footprint of plate processing operations.”

EcoFillX, an add-on feature within the MultiPlate software for ThermoFlexX imagers, introduces imageable structures into the non-printing areas of flexographic plates. Through sophisticated image analysis, EcoFillX efficiently populates these areas in the LAMS layer with the designated pattern, utilizing ThermoFlexX optics to expedite imaging. This innovation ensures that more polymer material remains on the final imaged plate, reducing the accumulation of solid content in the washout solvent. Consequently, this extends the lifespan of the washing solvent in circulation and reduces the frequency of solvent replenishment.

Recent tests conducted at a customer site demonstrated a notable 30% reduction in weekly solvent usage with EcoFillX. The extent of these savings may vary based on factors such as plate image filling, plate type, thickness, and requested washout depth.

For customers without in-house distilling units, this reduction translates into significant economic benefits. Customers with distilling units will also experience decreases in power consumption and the quantity of additives required to maintain optimal solvent conditions and balance.

“XSYS is thrilled to introduce this exciting innovation, which offers benefits beyond cost savings. EcoFillX is more than just a software feature; it’s a sustainable solution that enhances both economic efficiency and environmental stewardship,” concluded Dirk De Rauw.
