Amcor and Flügger launch paint container with 50% recycled plastic

New paint container with 50% recycled plastic launched.

Amcor and Danish paint manufacturer Flügger have launched a new paint container made with 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. The container, introduced in autumn 2024, is now available across Flügger’s markets in Europe and Asia.

Developed to reduce reliance on virgin plastics, the container was designed in line with Flügger’s environmental targets and aligns with the requirements of voluntary eco-labels such as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The packaging also features a new custom blue color developed to match Flügger’s brand identity.

“We wanted a solution that delivered on quality and visual appeal, while also being made with recycled materials,” said Casper Paggio Hansson Felt, communications and culture manager at Flügger. “Using 50% PCR was a natural choice — it’s a proven packaging solution that we already use for other products, developed in collaboration with Amcor, and it helps us meet the requirements of our eco-labeling schemes.”

The container is used across Flügger’s entire paint portfolio and serves both private consumers and professional users. The design includes color-coded lids, intended to help users distinguish between paint types quickly.

“Feedback from both consumers and our retail partners has been overwhelmingly positive — especially in terms of the color,” Felt added. “The blue container is visually appealing and the lids in different colors help users quickly identify the right type of paint, which adds practical value, especially for our professional customers.”

Flügger credits its long-term partnership with Amcor as a factor in achieving the packaging transition efficiently.

“It made a real difference that Amcor understood our needs and could deliver a high-quality solution,” Felt said.
