APRIL Group’s new Paperboard facility nears full-scale production

New paperboard manufacturing plant in Pangkalan Kerinci, Riau, Indonesia.

PT Riau Andalan Paperboard International, a subsidiary of APRIL Group, has commenced the commissioning of its new paperboard manufacturing plant in Pangkalan Kerinci, Riau, Indonesia. The facility, expected to be fully operational later this year, marks APRIL Group’s strategic move towards downstream diversification and sustainable business growth.

The new plant, with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons of recyclable and biodegradable paperboard, will be marketed under the BoardOneTM and SilverPak brands. This initiative aligns with APRIL Group’s commitment to sustainability, as the facility’s fibre supply will primarily come from productivity increases in existing plantations, complying with APRIL’s sustainability policy and APRIL2030 commitments.

“PT Riau Andalan Paperboard International contributes to Indonesia’s shift to a lower-carbon economy through the production of bio-based packaging materials to meet rising domestic and international demand for non-fossil fuel-based packaging products,” stated a spokesperson for the company. The new facility is expected to create over 600 new jobs when fully operational.

BoardOneTM will offer a range of premium paperboard products, including folding boxboard, cup stock, and art board (C2S), catering to general packaging, food service packaging, and graphic applications. These products are manufactured using high-quality fibre sourced from APRIL’s sustainably managed plantations, certified under the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Sustainable Forest Management standards.

APRIL Group will continue to fine-tune the new facility to meet global product quality, health and safety standards, and production sustainability criteria before full-scale production commences.
