BOBST has introduced an updated MASTER 6003 gravure printing press featuring a redesigned ink supply system, automated cylinder cleaning and integrated resource monitoring. The company announced the development in Mex, Switzerland, on 16 October 2026.
The new press builds on BOBST’s MASTER 6003 platform. Its LeanPrint inking system reduces the amount of ink required in circulation during printing by 60% compared with the previous configuration, according to the company. BOBST states that the reduced volume of ink exposed to air also lowers solvent consumption by up to 40%.
The revised system optimises the route between the ink tank and pan, including the pipework. An updated pan positioning mechanism controls the pan’s position relative to the printing cylinder, allowing ink transfer without manual adjustments.
Integrated pressure measurement devices provide operators with information on ink consumed during a job, ink circulating within the press, remaining prepared ink and estimated ink requirements for completing production. These readings appear on the press’s human-machine interface. The press also monitors electrical power and compressed-air consumption in real time.
An automated cylinder engraving pre-washing system removes dried ink from engraved cells. BOBST says cleaning cycles across the required printing stations can be completed within one minute, reducing manual cleaning during job changes. A redesigned auxiliary trolley allows ink tanks to be removed from either direction. It also incorporates cylinder positioning references and floor-level handling arrangements.
“Converters are seeking ways to improve efficiency and control costs, but without adding complexity to their workflow,” said Davide Rossello, Process R&D Manager Gravure at BOBST.
The company said the combined changes are intended to reduce material consumption, simplify press setup and provide production teams with records of ink and energy use.
