Glunz & Jensen A/S has launched the HALO LED Kit worldwide, introducing a retrofit route for flexo plate makers to convert exposure units from mercury UV-A tubes to LED technology.
Announced on 1 July 2026, the kit is aimed at trade shops, prepress departments and packaging converters using flexographic platemaking equipment for labels, flexible packaging, corrugated and other printed packaging applications. The company said HALO extends its LED exposure portfolio beyond new systems by enabling upgrades to existing exposure equipment, regardless of model or brand, where technically feasible.
The system replaces mercury UV-A tubes with LED lamps and dedicated LED drivers. In many conventional exposure units, the LED lamps are installed in the existing lamp positions, with no additional frames, wiring, software changes or brackets required in typical applications. The company said the approach is intended to reduce conversion complexity and limit downtime.
Glunz & Jensen said LED exposure provides immediate readiness, consistent irradiance and improved process control compared with conventional tube technology, which requires warm-up and can vary in output as tubes age. The HALO LED Kit is designed to deliver homogenous exposure across the plate surface, precise back exposure and stable floor formation. The specified back-exposure precision is within less than 0.02 mm tolerance, with light intensity options of 22, 25 and 28 mW/cm².
According to the company, HALO can reduce exposure times by approximately 20–30%, depending on plate type, settings and production conditions. The LED tubes have a guaranteed lifetime of more than 10,000 hours. HALO is available for 3647, 4260 and 5280 formats, with custom sizes assessed on request.
