Greiner Packaging, a prominent player in the packaging industry, has announced the extension of its partnership with Plastic Bank for the third time. The partnership, initiated in 2019, aims to combat plastic pollution and promote sustainability.

Since its inception, the collaboration has led to the collection of over 610 tons of plastic waste, which has been made available for recycling. Greiner Packaging’s commitment to the environment and sustainable practices is highlighted through this partnership extension.

Plastic Bank, a social enterprise, focuses on building ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities. It empowers collectors by offering them a bonus for the plastic they gather, thus enabling them to earn a higher income. The recycled material, known as Social Plastic® feedstock, provides both environmental and social benefits.

David Katz, the founder of Plastic Bank, emphasizes the importance of collective action: “We are all in agreement: someone has to do something about plastic in the ocean. Plastic Bank and its partners, such as Greiner Packaging, are part of the solution.”

Beatrix Praeceptor, CEO of Greiner Packaging, expresses her excitement about the partnership extension: “We’re extremely happy to extend our collaboration with Plastic Bank for the third time. This ongoing partnership reflects our strong commitment to a sustainable future.”

The partnership’s impact is significant, particularly in Manila, Philippines, where five plastic collection centers were established in 2019. The Philippines is the third-largest producer of plastic waste globally, with approximately 2,000,000 tons of plastic ending up in the sea annually.

“We are aware that we cannot solve the entire plastic waste problem in the Philippines. However, our cooperation has a significant impact on the lives of local people,” explains Beatrix Praeceptor.

Through this partnership, over 1,660 individuals across 137 communities in the Philippines have benefited, receiving access to incremental income and social benefits. Plastic Bank’s operations extend to other countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil, and Egypt.
