Ishida expands African presence with NPS acquisition

Ishida strengthens African presence with acquisition of NPS, expanding offering to customers.

Ishida Europe has expanded its presence in Africa through the acquisition of National Packaging Systems (NPS), a specialist South African packaging equipment manufacturer based in Pinetown near Durban. Established in 1983, NPS is known for its high-performance vertical form, fill, and seal machines for various packaging types, as well as volumetric fillers, auger fillers, and feed systems. The company serves a wide range of industries, including food and non-food products such as sugar, rice, snacks, and non-food applications like firelighters and car components.

The acquisition of NPS by Ishida Europe will combine technical expertise, applications experience, and market knowledge to provide customers with comprehensive weighing, packing, and quality control systems. This partnership aims to enhance automation levels for businesses and offer cost-effective entry-level systems for start-up operations. Customers can expect improved support services, including fast response localised service and rapid spare parts supply.

“We are excited to become part of Ishida,” said Russell Gwynn, Managing Director of NPS. “The synergies between the two businesses will enable us to offer an even more comprehensive package to our customers in terms of both equipment and after-sales support, providing them with the ability to further grow and expand their business.”

NPS will continue to operate as a separate entity within the Ishida group. Dave Tiso, Managing Director of Ishida Europe, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting NPS’s commitment to delivering excellent service. “We look forward to working together in the continued growth of both companies,” he added.
