Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG) has expanded its lifecycle portfolio with the ChromaStar ink dispensing system, introducing a modular spot colour production solution for packaging printing operations and other commercial applications.
The company announced that the ChromaStar Series addresses production challenges associated with spot colour preparation, including manual mixing, limited standardisation, longer turnaround times and dependence on specialist operators. According to HEIDELBERG, the range comprises the X, S, M and P models and supports conventional, UV and low-migration Saphira inks for food and non-food packaging applications.
The ChromaStar S system is available for customer demonstrations at the company’s Home of Print facility in Wiesloch-Walldorf following its introduction during Packaging Day in June. HEIDELBERG said the configuration is intended for annual spot colour volumes of one to ten metric tons.
“With the new ChromaStar series, we are offering our customers, particularly in packaging printing, a highly integrated solution that improves productivity, quality, and sustainability in equal measure,” said Dr. David Schmedding, CSO at HEIDELBERG. “At the same time, as a system integrator, we are further expanding our position in the market for consumables and tapping into additional growth potential in the packaging segment.”
HEIDELBERG stated that the system integrates with Saphira Inks, Saphira Cloud, Saphira Check and Saphira Control, linking formulation, dosing and colour control within a single workflow. The company said this supports traceability, colour consistency and proof output across production.
The launch forms part of HEIDELBERG’s lifecycle business strategy, with the company aiming to expand its portfolio for packaging printing and selected emerging markets in Asia and Latin America. The solution also forms part of the company’s broader lifecycle offering, complementing existing consumables, presses, services and workflow technologies globally today.
