Henkel introduces five light-cure adhesives for medical device assembly

Henkel Adhesive Technologies has introduced five light-cure adhesives for medical device assembly, citing changes in European regulatory requirements and manufacturers’ need to review materials used in device production.

The products, Loctite AA 3914, AA 3915, AA 3917, AA 3937 and AA 3964, have been formulated in line with requirements concerning endocrine disruptors (ED), substances classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction (CMR), and TPO, according to the company.

Henkel said each grade contains less than 0.1% by weight of CMR, ED and TPO-related content. The adhesives have also been tested under company protocols based on ISO 10993, a series of standards addressing the biological evaluation of medical devices.

The announcement comes as manufacturers assess materials against the European Union’s Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR 2017/745), which places particular emphasis on certain substances used in medical devices.

According to Henkel, the formulations offer improved fluorescence stability both before and after curing, intended to support visual inspection during production. The company also reported improved strength retention in accelerated aging tests, relevant to manufacturers’ evaluation and validation of device assemblies.

Julia Kurtz, Director Marketing & Strategy for Industrial Adhesives at Henkel, said: “This new portfolio was developed with that objective in mind, helping medical device manufacturers navigate evolving regulatory needs while maintaining performance, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency, essential to their success.”

Henkel plans to present the five adhesives at MD&M Midwest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, on October 28–29, 2026, and at COMPAMED in Düsseldorf, Germany, on November 16–19, 2026.

Company representatives will be available at both events to discuss regulatory considerations, validation planning and application-specific requirements for medical device assembly. All five products are intended for medical device assembly applications.
