Henkel launches “Climate Connect” to collaborate with suppliers on climate action

The new program supports Henkel’s suppliers to take action on decarbonization.

Henkel launches an engagement program on climate action for its worldwide suppliers.

Henkel has announced the launch of a new initiative, “Climate Connect,” aimed at working closely with its suppliers worldwide to reduce Scope 3 emissions. The program, part of Henkel’s net-zero pathway ambition, will focus on transparent data collection, training, and targeted actions for decarbonization.

“Climate Connect” represents a significant step for Henkel in addressing the environmental impact of its upstream supply chain. The program, developed in collaboration with “Manufacture 2030,” a partner specializing in carbon reduction, will target raw material and packaging suppliers, as well as contract manufacturers and suppliers of traded goods globally.

Bertrand Conquéret, Chief Procurement Officer at Henkel, emphasized the importance of supporting smaller partners in emissions reporting, stating, “Compared to large companies, our small- and medium-sized partners often find it difficult to record their CO2 emissions as they lack the capacity to do so. Yet this data is hugely relevant, as it is the only way to define targets and measures to reduce these emissions.”

Through “Climate Connect,” Henkel aims to offer individualized support to participating suppliers, helping them assess their baseline and implement measures for climate actions. The program will also enable suppliers to track their progress in environmental key figures and make their data visible for other customers.

In addition to its efforts with “Climate Connect,” Henkel is already working closely with partners in the chemical industry through the “Together for Sustainability (TfS)” initiative to collect Product Carbon Footprint data from strategic suppliers. The company aims to extend this approach to an even larger supplier base with various maturity levels.

Henkel has set ambitious targets to reduce its carbon footprint, including a 67 percent reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030. The company also aims to reduce CO2 emissions from raw materials and packaging by 30 percent by 2030, aligning with the “Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)” standard.

The “Climate Connect” initiative underscores Henkel’s commitment to sustainability and its efforts to drive climate action across its value chain.
