Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited has entered into a partnership with Nigerian Breweries Plc and Genesis Power & Energy Solutions Ltd to establish a large-scale food-grade recycled PET (rPET) production facility in Lagos, Nigeria.
The planned facility will have an annual production capacity of approximately 45,000 tonnes of rPET resin and is expected to be commissioned by the first half of 2027. It will process post-consumer PET bottles into recycled material suitable for use in beverage packaging applications, including bottle-to-bottle production.
The project is designed to integrate key stages of the recycling value chain, including collection, sorting, and processing of post-consumer PET waste. The resulting rPET material is intended to support growing demand for recycled content in packaging, particularly within the beverage sector.
Indorama Ventures will contribute its experience in PET production and recycling technologies, while Nigerian Breweries is expected to provide downstream demand and market linkage. Genesis Energy will support infrastructure development and energy supply for the facility.
Located in Lagos, the plant is expected to strengthen local recycling capacity and improve the availability of food-grade recycled materials within Nigeria. It also aligns with broader efforts to develop circular economy systems by increasing the recovery and reuse of plastic waste.
The project reflects a wider trend of investment in rPET infrastructure in emerging markets, where collection and recycling systems are still developing. It is also expected to support improvements in post-consumer waste collection and material recovery rates.
